Our sunny December trip to Tunisia. A 2 day trip on the sahara explorer Trip travelling to South Tunisia visiting many places on the way. A visit to El Djem (3rd Largest Roman Amphi Theatre, inspiration for the film Gladiator) early in the morning and the surrounding town. A visit to the town of Matmata and a look around a local Troglodyte house built into the hillside. A visit to the village of Douz 'Gateway to the Sahara Desert' and a camel ride at sunset in the desert. A stay at a hotel near the Sahara Desert. Sunrise over the salt lakes of Chott El Jerid. A visit to the village of Tozeur and horse and carriage around one of the largest oasis's in North Africa where dates are harvested from the palms. A Jeep ride to the Atlas Mountains to a small village called Chebika, then on to the Grande Cascade at Tamerza (the setting for The English Patient film.) A visit to the 4th Holiest city in the Islamic world, Kairouan. Our Hotel, Royal Kenz. The beach, quite empty in December! A visit to Sousse Medina.
