See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com In Trapani, Western Sicily after a long ferry ride We spent almost all of today in customs lines or on an Ustica Lines ferry to Trapani, in western Sicily. Wewoke up early and tried to spend all of our remaining dinar before leaving Tunisia. The currency is literally worthless outside of Tunisia as it is non-convertible. The ferry left on time at 10am. So much for all the horror stories we'd heard about boats and port customs in Tunisia. It was all pretty much a breeze. Our boat was empty--maybe 25 passengers total with only 3 cars. About a dozen of the passengers were all with one Czech tour group. They all smoked...alot. There was also a torrid romance between some young Tunisian guy and one of the Czech ladies. We saw it begin and end 6 hours later. We also watched 'Finding Nemo' in Italian. Finally landed at 9pm. Italian customs was very militaristic as 10 dudes in vests charged on to the boat and started barking at everyone in Italian. It took about an hour an hour to get off the boat and into our hotel in Trapani. There we did laundryand left the clothes on the porch to dry in the morning. The next day we took the city bus to Erice, a medieval town on a hilltop overlooking Trapani and the surrounding region. We really enjoyed the beautiful views, which are shown in the next entry, a separate entry just for Erice...
