So I was sick–very sick. Shelly played mommy and took care of me well. We became bums on the kibbutz for a while and really got to know the kibbutzniks. For those of you who don’t know, Shelly Farahan is my really good friend from Indiana University who I am continuing my Israel trip with and who you will hear a lot about in the future because we have been together 24/7 and it has been a blast. Her brother is what they call a ’lonely soldier’ which means he made aaliyah and joined the army but his parents aren’t…

Streets and squares, Serbia Breakfast is an unhurried and often alcoholic affair in a Serbian summer. For instance, Laze Teleckog in Novi Sad is home to plenty of places to appreciate the beauty of coffee, rakija, Serbians and something that one tourist brochure called "the hobby of uninterested hanging around." You can spend all day sipping your drink and skimming your book. Conversation if you care for it, privacy if you don't.... Your table is waiting. Wednesday November 07 2007 Dianne arrived yesterday and we are off tomorrow for Lijiang in mountainousYunnan province. The scenery will be gorgeous and part of it is a UNESCO heritage site. We'll be back on the 13th. I've been having plagiarism problems with some of my students. I find chunks of their essays on the Internet, and they claim it's something they remembered! Even the mistakes. One said that the requirements of Chinese and foreign teachers are different: his Chinese English teachers encouraged him to remember and use sentences that he liked. I asked some folks about tuition. Different majors…

Saturday, August 25 - Monday, August 27:Saskatoon is my hometown, so we always enjoy our stay here visiting friends and relatives. Of course, we try to spendas much time with Mom as possible, talking, shopping and doing errands. Mom and I finally had our long awaitedpedicures, a Mother's Day gift that we always save until we can go together. Mom's toes are now a mauvey pink, whilemine are a sparkly burgundy.Terry has been serving us fabulous meals - from her famous Greek ribs, to Mom's favorite roast beef, to home-madespaghetti sauce. Zorro has made himself quite at home, even waiting…

Oversleep??? I thought I would oversleep??? Please- the walls were so thin, I could hear Ds Blackberry go off. There is a baby crying, a dog barking, and around 6am, a farm truck starts up and a tractor. Breakfast is of course, a buffet and a full-Irish. I order eggs (fried- and hard- I cant handle runny yolk). When they come, they are not just runny (they cover my plate when I cut into them) but they smell funny and seem slightly off in taste. But the kicker is finding not one, not two, but three hairs in my eggs.…
