Kathmandu is fantastic!! Saris, cows in the road, people hanging off buses – certainly a change from China! Set off with a map and a well organized route round the Thamel area. 10 minutes later and Im lost. Do the logical thing and keep going rather than retracing my steps. Finally get my bearings three hours later thanks to some very handy billboard maps which appear out of nowhere, just when you need them! Discard map.

Find a couple of English bookshops and loads of net cafes (no public telephones tho – typical! My fonecard was barred in china yet on every street corner there was a phonebox!)
