The Tutukaka stretch of coastline is pretty fantastic to see. Crystal clear turquoise water contrasting against the green of the bush or the grey of the rocks, even on an overcast day, it’s stunning to see. Jess is a Wanderer headed out to tramp to the lighthouse.
The walk is a 2km round trip and takes approximately an hour to go there and back. That doesn’t count rock climbing time down on the causeway not taking in the view once at the lighthouse.
After walking across open fields, you’ll get to some wooden steps that lead down to the causeway. Make sure you’ve checked the tide as you wouldn’t want to get stuck!
Crossing the causeway leads you to bush – which is a quite a steep climb – up to the lighthouse. Despite the steepness, it’s totally worth the effort for the view. Even on an overcast, slightly damp kind of day.
