Jammu and Kashmir are the two Hindu& Muslim majority (Respectively) regions that are the most denselypopulated, hence the states name. The Jammu region is better known asthe city of , temples and beautiful palaces. Jammu, the capital, is the major city youll pass on your way to the Kashmirregion. The Kashmir region is very famous for its natural beauty andpopularly known as ‘Paradise on Earth’ or ‘The Valley’, because of thearea that stretches out between the Himalayas and the Pir PanjalMountain Range. Its capital Srinagaris a wonderful colourful city with many museums and gardens. FromSrinagar, you can do some excellent daytrips or set off for one of thehill stations from which to start your trekking.

The eastern region of India is known as Ladakhwith a large Buddhist population and better known as the Indian versionof Tibet. It is an interesting area with an overdose of astonishingviews and multiple opportunities for trekking, rafting and walking.Ladakh lies between an altitude of 9000 feet to 25000 feet. Ladakhis bordered by the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram Mountain ranges. Drass,Zanskar and the Suru Valley in the Himalaya region receive heavy snowin winter. It is said that only in Ladakh you can suffer from sunstrokeand frostbite at the same time. The people, region and the culture ofLadakh are much alike the Tibet and the Central Asia. Many villages arecrowned with a Gompa or Monastery. Leh is a lovely town with the impressive Leh Palace dominating the town.

It might be a wise idea to check out the latest news on thesituation in Kashmir. Although it is relatively safe for tourists,Kashmir still is a disputed territory and the fighting between Pakistanand India still claims lives.
